£10.6 million boost to help make UK communities more energy efficient
30 June 2005
The government today announced a £10.6 million boost for homes and public buildings across the UK to help supply more energy efficient heating.
The grants, outlined by Minister for Climate Change and Environment Elliot Morley, will be awarded under the Community Energy programme, managed by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), which aims to link heating for homes with other amenities in a bid to help reduce the impact of climate change.
More than £50million has been shared by Community Energy schemes across the UK since 2002.
Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust said: "We are delighted to support these 16 projects which will deliver real change at a local level. These initiatives will not only reduce the cost of fuelling and maintaining heating systems, but will also cut harmful carbon dioxide emissions by more than 5,000 tonnes a year - helping to address the damaging effects of climate change."
Among the recipients of the latest round of grants is Birmingham City Council, which received £1.3million to install a new heating network that will connect a university and children's hospital, as part of one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe.

LOGSTOR to be Europe's leading pipe manufacturer
May 2005
Løgstør Rør acquires ALSTOM Power FlowSystems.
The new entity will be known as LOGSTOR, and will be a market leader in sales, service and technical solutions within pre insulated pipes. LOGSTOR will sell its products globally in a market where higher energy prices increases the importance of efficient, energy-saving products.
LOGSTOR will be the name of the world's largest manufacturer of pipe products for district heating and district cooling. The company behind the new name is the result of Løgstør Rør’s acquisition of ALSTOM Power FlowSystems from the ALSTOM Group, which is listed on the Paris stock exchange. The current majority shareholders in Løgstør Rør – Axcel, Polaris and FIH – will own more than 90% of the new company's capital.
Preben Tolstrup will become Chief Executive Officer of LOGSTOR. He comes from FLS Industries and earlier led ABB ALSTOM Power's global environmental activities. The current CEO of Løgstør Rør – Ole Bøgelund Nielsen - continues as member of the executive board with overall responsibility for the integration of the two companies.
The new executive board will furthermore include CFO Frank Bech and Sales Director Lars Ibsen from Løgstør Rør as well as Production Director Jens Ebbesen from ALSTOM Power FlowSystems. Per Asmussen, CEO of ALSTOM Power FlowSystems will leave the business after completion of the deal. The current Løgstør Rør chairman, Ole Andersen, will continue in that role in the new company.
LOGSTOR will maintain its position as innovative pipe manufacturer, with the objective to reduce energy loss in fluid transport. The company will be the leading supplier in most European countries including the important markets in Eastern Europe. The new company will have its headquarters in Løgstør and production plants in Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Finland. The new entity has a combined turnover of approximately 2 billion DKK (270 million EUR) and a total of 1.300 employees.
"The current majority shareholders acquired Løgstør Rør in 1999 with a clear view to take part in an industrial consolidation. After some difficult years for the industry with significant restructuring activities both companies realised positive results in 2004. We now have a sound platform for this merger and we are pleased with the continued support from our investors which enable us to complete this task”, said Ole Andersen, adding that "This offers opportunities for a greater international expansion, while at the same time the new entity is integrated and further optimised over the next years."
"Our customers should expect a competitive supplier that is absolutely cutting-edge in quality, service and development of energy-saving products and systems for district heating, oil and gas, maritime and other industrial sectors. LOGSTOR will offer its customers access to the new company's vast knowledge of energy-saving insulation methods, in order to enjoy even greater returns on their investments," said Preben Tolstrup.
The take over is pending approval of selective countries' competition authorities, which are expected to be obtained within a month.

Continuously manufactured pipes using the axial process have a diffusion barrier as earlier
As standard, continuously manufactured pipes using the spiral process have no diffusion barrier
HT3 have been updated in accordance with the new catalogue
Furthermore, the software automatically checks for future releases if launched online.
The program can be used with our district heating systems, including single and double pipes.
