The Challenge

To supply and install a network in a secure prison environment. PPSL was tasked with locating the existing network and designing new pipework installations for a new housing block and workshop.

Our Solution

PPSL has extensive experience in delivering projects in secure sites, such as for the MOD and HMPS. These projects pose additional challenges as a result of the security restrictions in place and limited time on site for each visit. As a result,PPSL undertook a number of site visits and surveys of the current system, as well as route planning visits, to design an installation that met all expansion requirements. PPSL’s design ensured that the new pipework would connect to the existing but be commissioned and monitored by a separate leak detection system.

Results

PPSL received excellent feedback from the client for the work undertaken. The project was delivered 5% under budget thanks to a number of route changes that were made as part of the design development works. Plans were adapted on site as a result of challenges in the location of the connections that could only be identified at the point of excavation. The tie-in work from new to existing pipework was undertaken in less than eight hours to minimise the impact on inmates.
