To undertake route design. expansion and contraction design, supply, installation and pressure testing of a new network covering more than 7km of large diameter pre-Insulated pipe. (The majority of these pipes being 250mm series 2).
To also supply four substations capable of feeding 1000’s of new homes from a waste heat network owned by Vattenfall and built by FES Group.
We engaged with the major stakeholders four months ahead of work on site as the route passed through two sites and included three road crossings of a busy main road. We developed the outline route into a coordinated construction drawing – both flat plan and section, to ensure minimum depths were adhered to. We unloaded more than 18 wagons of pre-insulated materials using 50–60-tonne cranes and handled all pipes around the site with a full-time lifting team from Synergy
The project was completed within 35 weeks – ahead of the deadline and to a very high standard. Due to ongoing design changes, PPSL adapted the design as we progressed from Rev 1 to Rev 21, ensuring alarm and expansion designs were updated to reflect changes and ensure CP1 and EN13941 compliance. We provided a full set of installation records for all welds and fusion welded joints, mapped to GPS coordinates accompanied by a CP1 compliant Operations and Maintenance manual containing all the required project records to evidence compliance. Throughout the work we undertook monthly Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) audits with all results presented to the client.
I was thoroughly impressed with how the PPSL team delivered this project, from early design stage through to final handover – exceeding our expectations and delivering the project safely and on schedule. The installation of this heat network had a range of complexities meaning that working to approved processes and standards was essential. PPSL were meticulous throughout the process and ensured all works were compliant to the highest of standards. More so the way the team communicated throughout meant that work was always well planned with all necessary records & audits provided on time.
