PPSL District Heating has continued its long-standing support for Bolton Hospice by volunteering to help prepare the charity’s new shop and café in Astley Bridge.
The Egerton-based district heating specialist regularly supports Bolton Hospice through volunteering, most often assisting the hospice’s gardening team with maintenance and upkeep of the grounds. Many of the hospice gardeners are volunteers who have experienced the support of Bolton Hospice through their own families and want to give something back to the charity.
As part of its latest volunteering effort, PPSL District Heating was asked to support the outdoor areas at Bolton Hospice’s new shop and café in Astley Bridge, where the car park and surrounding outside space required tidying, cutting back and weeding ahead of the opening.
With three members of the PPSL team available, the company arranged for them to attend the site and help get the space ready. Working alongside Chris, the café manager, the team arrived at 9am and spent the morning clearing and improving the outdoor areas around the new shop, helping to create a welcoming environment for staff, volunteers and visitors.
The volunteering day reflects PPSL District Heating’s ongoing commitment to supporting good causes in the communities where it lives and works. While the company’s ability to help depends on labour availability, it continues to support Bolton Hospice whenever possible and is proud to play a small part in helping the charity continue its vital work.

“Our team usually works alongside the volunteer gardeners at the hospice itself, so when we were asked if we could instead help get the new shop and café in Astley Bridge ready for opening, we were more than happy to do so.
“We had three of the lads available, and they did a fantastic job clearing and tidying the outside space and car park. It is important to us as a business that we support organisations like Bolton Hospice where we can, and we are delighted to have been able to lend a hand.”

Bolton Hospice provides specialist care and support for people facing life-limiting illnesses, as well as support for their families and loved ones. Through practical volunteering support such as this, PPSL District Heating is helping the hospice maintain welcoming spaces both at its main site and within the wider community.
