Felnex
PPSL were successful in securing the contract to install the district heating mains for the new Felnex development in Hackbridge, which once finished will have over 800 residential properties, including houses, apartments and also business units such as doctors, supermarket and commercial premises.
The first half of the site is being developed by Barratt’s David Wilson Homes and the second half by Barratt’s London. PPSL are in contract for both on behalf of Watkins Plumbing and Heating and LBS Logistics.
Given the scale of the development PPSL were engaged early in the design phase and worked with Utilitas to coordinate the district heating mains with the site wide service plan given the heating mains would be the first service installed. This pre planning from both a build and heat on phasing proved critical in developing the most cost effective and robust design to mange the phasing required by way of installation and commissioning. This was achieved using a series of pre insulated and one time values.
The installation consists of over 11km of pre insulated pipe with Logstor series 2 steel mains and Logstor series two Pex for the branch / house entries, and over 3000 welds and fusion welded joints to date. This design allowed the mains to be installed in advance of roads being laid, and branches to be connected once slabs are cast with minimal / no disruption to the on site traffic and existing residents who are moving in phase by phase.
The importance of pre planning on such large developments cannot be stressed enough, the PPSL team have a vast amount of experience in planning and installing district heating pipes on small to large residential developments to ensure the smooth running of every project.
The PPSL Operations and project management team have worked closely with all the relevant stakeholders throughout, in order to ensure the system is full compliant to EN13941 and suitable for adoption by Veolia once completed. Industry leading standards have been adhered to throughout the entire project with independent auditors attending site throughout to inspect work in progress as well as H&S and quality record keeping. Over 50% of the project has also been subject to NDT testing to further prove the quality of the workmanship.
PPSL commenced the first phasing in 2016 and are programmed to complete the works in 2021. Phase by phase all of the following records are taken and submitted to the client
As installed drawings detailing each weld and joint
Alarm drawings
Expansion / foam pad drawing
Welding records
Jointing records
Alarm inspection reports
NDT test results
H&S records
Certificates of competency for each team member
Technical specification for each product utilised throughout the works
